When I finish the Program, will I be able to take the ARDMS Registry?

MTCVI graduates that complete 1,110 clock hours in classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction in the Adult Echocardiography Program will be eligible and encouraged to take the national certification examinations. Although credentialing is not required for employment, it is highly recommended and encouraged for students to meet a majority of employer requirements. Students qualify for the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).

What are the educational prerequisites for admission to MTCVI?

The applicant must have successfully completed one of the following education prerequisites to enter the Program at MTCVI:

A single two-year allied health education program that is patient-care related. Allied health occupations include, but are not limited to, diagnostic medical sonographer, radiologic technologist, respiratory therapist, occupational therapist, physical therapist and registered nurse. Graduate of a two year program in Allied Health


Successful completion of a Bachelor’s Degree (any major and/or concentration) program from a regionally accredited college or university.

What is the price of tuition?

Currently, tuition for the thirteen month Adult Echocardiography Program is $23,000.

Is the Program at MTCVI accredited?

Middle Tennessee Cardiovascular Institute is a new institution offering a new program as of 2018. It takes an institution approximately 2 years to complete the accreditation process. MTCVI is committed to completing this process in due time, and providing students with the best education possible now and in the future.

Is MTCVI and its Program authorized by the state of Tennessee?

Yes, Middle Tennessee Cardiovascular Institute (MTCVI) is authorized by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission. This authorization must be renewed each year and is based on an evaluation of minimum standards concerning the quality of education, ethical business practices, and fiscal responsibility. What is Medical Imaging Staffing Services, INC.?

Medical Imaging Staffing Services, INC. is an ultrasound staffing company owned and operated by the MTCVI Institutional Director, Gene Spain. Gene started Medical Imaging over 10 years ago, and continues to staff experienced sonographers at hospitals and physicians’ office around the state of Tennessee and Kentucky. Students may also have the opportunity to learn alongside Medical Imaging sonographers during their clinical externships. Medical Imaging’s experienced sonographers travel to Vanderbilt Medical Center and its affiliates, Saint Thomas Health affiliated hospitals, and more.

Do you offer an in-school payment plan?

At this moment we do not offer a payment plan for students. If accepted into the Program, the student will have ten (10) days (if permitted) to make a deposit of $1,500 to secure the student’s spot in the Program. Registration will be scheduled by a MTCVI Representative following acceptance to the Program.

How long is the program?

The program is a 13 month Adult Echocardiography that consists of 35 hours per week for 45 weeks for didactic and clinical instruction resulting in a total of 1,110 clock hours. The Program is full time and takes place 5 days a week, Monday through Friday.

Is there job placement?

Employment in Middle Tennessee and the surrounding areas is very likely after graduation, but not guaranteed. Middle Tennessee Cardiovascular Institute does not offer specific job placement, but provides students with employment leads if available.

Can I work during the Program?

Students are advised to not be employed during enrollment in the rigorous, full time Program at MTCVI, specifically during designated school or clinical hours. Classroom instruction and Scanning Labs are scheduled from 8 A.M. to 4:30 P.M., and clinical externships will vary by site. Most clinical site schedules will be from 7 A.M. to around 5 P.M., but all students should be aware of possible schedule variations

Will I be able to find employment in Middle Tennessee and surrounding areas in the field of ultrasound?

Employment in the local Middle Tennessee and surrounding area is very likely after graduation, but not guaranteed. The local industry of Adult Echocardiography is growing in Nashville, and other cities around the state and country. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that the industry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography will see an overall increase of 22% in job growth by 2024. In 2015, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, with an optional specialization in cardiac sonography, earned an annual mean wage of $64,280 in the Davidson- Nashville- Murfreesboro area. It was also calculated by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics that the 2015 entry level wage for a Diagnostic Sonographer was $46,135.

The average class size is limited. Only 5 to 10 students will be accepted into the Program.

What books are required for the Program?

The required books for the Program will cost each student approximately $240. Students will be required to buy ECHO. . . From a Sonographer’s Perspective: THE NOTEBOOK & THE WORKBOOK by Susan Dewitt and Understanding Ultrasound Physics by Sidney Edelman. It is recommended students purchase Susan Dewitt’s ECHO. . . From a Sonographer’s Perspective: THE NOTEBOOK & WORKBOOK “set” to save on costs.

Is there a dress code for the Program?

Uniforms are required for the Program during classroom and clinical instruction, and include scrub top and pants. During classroom hours, students may wear scrubs that are any color or any pattern. During the clinical portion of the Program, all students must wear navy blue scrubs.

Students are welcome to buy their uniforms at any store available. Students can contact the MTCVI Administrative Director for any questions regarding uniforms.

Why do I need a Drug Test and Background Check?

In an effort to comply with the recommendations of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, the majority of the major healthcare facilities and agencies utilized by the Institute for clinical training require that each student undergo a background check and a urine drug screening. Students seeking enrollment in this program must provide evidence of a passing score on a background check and a urine drug screen. Either the failure to provide the required results by the due date established or the receipt of anything other than a passing score will make a student ineligible for enrollment in this program.

The background checks and urine drug screens are performed at the student’s expense.
